Nighthawks Architecture

Speaking of Hopper, what is wrong with this picture? All that glass and no superstructure to speak of looks like a building that would not be found in the real world. If you look close at the far left end of the room you will see what looks like a post in the corner but even then there is a lot of roof resting on that post.

Koheleth has a word for the feeling I get while viewing Nighthawks, hebel! It’s the Hebrew word used in Ecclesiastes, meaning breath or vapor. Hebel is translated meaningless in the NIV and can mean futile, fleeting, empty, even lonely.

Ron,

I think hebel would be more applicable to Gottfried Helnwein's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". The first time I saw this print for sale in a gallery it was framed with neon lights attached in a clever way somewhat difficult to describe. Hopper imitation has been going on for a long time.

I agree! Like Hopper, Koheleth was the real thing!
