This is a re-shoot of a roof at Highline High School. I was using a long focal length and could not get both the big white vent and the steaming vent in focus at the same time so I took about twenty exposures focusing at different points and then combined two images to get both of the important vents in focus.

I am reposting this shot because it was buried so deep in my blog that I couldn't find it and it is a favorite of mine taken during my first serious shoot with my first digital camera about a week after I took up photography again after a lapse of 25 years without a camera.

Armistice Day

Photos taken while trespassing on some land which has been confiscated by the Port of Seattle for the third runway at SeaTac. There was no fence and the land was west of the DesMoines way so I wasn't in the secure area, it was adjacent to a construction site which looks like it will be used for a new access road. I have an attachment to the site. I used to ride my horse there in the summer of 1960. The farm where we kept the horse can be seen here: True's Farm

South of Yesler

This was taken today at 11:17AM south of Yesler near the waterfront in Seattle. It was a sun filtered through fog day. Never really cleared up. The fog was down between the buildings.

Take a close look at the bottom of that wall and note the window arches just above street level. Strange place for windows isn't it. I suspect this is a building that was constructed before the street level was raised one floor and what we see here is the tops of windows in "underground Seattle".

Indian Summer

This was taken in SW Seattle on Oct 23, 2007 at 3:18 PM in a little park at S 160th and 9th SW. The ambiant temperature was 71F. The second day of warm weather. The image was developed from a raw file in ACR4.2 and PSE4 Mac.

A business in the west end of South Park near the Duwamish Bridge in south Seattle.

Under Power

A little sailboat making for Eliot Bay at the mouth of the Duwamish River. The sailboat is dwarfed by the surrounding landscape.

Out the Window

South Seattle, just west of 1st Av south of Spokane Street. This was taken with Olympus E510 + ZD legacy 40-150 at 100mm, ISO 100, f8 1/200th. Developed from raw file in ACR4.1. Sharpening with unsharp mask in PSE4 threshold 2, radius 1.0, level 95.

Went down to the Union Pacific switching yards in south Seattle after dinner and worked for an hour or so before the light gave out and it started raining.

#121 behind the Old Rainier Brewery

This was taken behind the old Rainier Brewery in Georgetown a neighborhood in south Seattle. I have a lot more images to post for Georgetown, keep watching this space.

Seven Windows - Georgetown

This photo was taken in south Seattle in a old neighborhood called Georgetown which was the location of the old Rainier brewery. It was developed in Adobe Camera Raw 3.7 and then edited in PSE4. The post processing included a contrast mask.

three windows & a door

Other than cleaning up the lines and making them straight (more or less) I did nothing to this but the usual grayscale adjustments. This was all developed in 8bit using PSE4. The color is the way I found it. This brick wall with three windows and a door is in the same general location as my previous five or six posts, all from the same shoot taken with a few minutes of each other.

under the viaduct

This shot was taken just across the street from previous posts 24 hour access and exit only. This building was just east of the viaduct a few feet and I assume the attractive decor is probably drippings from the viaduct. I did a google on the words: under the viaduct Seattle, and here are some of the things that came up.

Don't enter this door. There is no door knob. There is a sign attached to the inside of the door. Notice the screws holding the edges and the center of the sign. I have not seen the sign but it is there. A sign doesn't have to be seen to exist [quote from Sartre here]. We see evidence of the sign but not the sign itself [quote from Saussure here].

Color was left as found. Didn't mess with the color.
